The historic town of Southport, NC was originally incorporated in 1792 as the town of Smithville. The town changed its name to Southport in 1887. The streets of Southport are lined with several hundred year old live oaks, boutique shops and restaurants, historical landmarks, and restored Victorian homes. The town looks out over the mouth of the Cape Fear River and provides magnificent views of Oak Island and Bald Head Island. Southport is home to the official North Carolina 4th of July Festival.
